Tips on how to help your child sleep better

Hope you are all having a peaceful day!
I'm wondering if everyone is getting a good night's sleep? Having a bedtime ritual is such an important part of helping your body recognize it's time to sleep so it can relax. Today's post is a list of ways to help you sleep better. Find the link for an animated bedtime story at the bottom of the post. It's a story you can watch or just listen to so your body knows it's time for bed.

1. Set up a regular bedtime routine with a story and a quiet chat.
2. Relax before bedtime by reading a book, listening to gentle music or practicing deep breathing.
3. Keep regular sleep and wake times to help keep your child’s body clock in a regular pattern.
5. Make sure your child feels safe at night by avoiding scary TV shows, movies, and computer games
6. Check noise and light in your child’s bedroom. A quiet, dimly lit space is important for good sleep. Avoid blue lights from televisions, phones and tablets.
7. Eat the right amount at the right time. Try to eat dinner 2-3 hours before bedtime.8. Get plenty of natural light in the day. 
8. Encourage your child to spend time outside. Physical activity improves sleep quality and duration.

Face masks

Good morning Cambridge families, this week we talked about playing our part to stop the spread of germs by social distancing. Another practice just as important in stopping germs is wearing a face mask. Wearing a mask not only protects the person wearing it but more importantly, it protects those people that need extra protection like infants, the elderly and people that have chronic diseases. But sometimes face masks are confusing. You can't always recognize the person wearing one. You can't see their nose or their mouth. Sometimes it hard to hear what they're saying. They can be uncomfortable to wear. The attached video is a social story that helps explain that even though people look different behind a mask, they are still the same person. Wearing a face mask is another way to play our part in protecting ourselves and others.
